The Local Legends of Tehaleh: Small Businesses Worth Falling in Love With

Tehaleh's small business story isn't about businesses that arrived from outside the community — it's about residents who saw what their neighborhood needed and built it themselves.

Post & Pour: Tehaleh Residents Who Built Their Own Community's Third Place

Melanie Clark and her husband, along with their business partner, are proud residents of Tehaleh themselves — and that personal stake in the community is exactly what led them to purchase the building formerly known as The Post, which had housed Caffé D'arte and the Tehaleh Welcome Center for twelve years. Melanie and Wilbur longed for more offerings at The Post and saw an opportunity for the community to interact and grow together in a more meaningful way than the existing space provided.

To bring that vision to life, they turned to their close friend Stu, a seasoned owner and operator of several bottle and tap houses in Seattle and Portland. Stu fell in love with the building and the neighborhood instantly, and together the three of them transformed the space into Post & Pour — part café, part bistro, part tap house, and now a genuine cornerstone of daily life in Tehaleh, complete with sweeping outdoor patio views of Mount Rainier.

Post & Pour's mission is built around the concept of a "third place" — a social environment distinct from home and work where people gather for relaxation and casual connection, free from the pressure of productivity. Melanie has personally created a calendar of community events to bring that vision to life, including wine and yoga on the lawn, book clubs, trivia nights, and story time for kids. The team has also made a deliberate commitment to supporting other Tehaleh-based businesses wherever possible, working with local partners including Landshark Woodworks, Hot Off The Press, and BrownDog Coffee Roasters — a genuinely interconnected approach to building a local economy within a still-growing master-planned community.

Why locals love them: A coffee shop and taphouse built by the very neighbors who live alongside everyone else in Tehaleh, with the single best view of Mount Rainier in the entire community and a genuine commitment to supporting every other local business they can.

Why Local Businesses Matter to Tehaleh

Melanie, Wilbur, and Stu's decision to personally invest in building Post & Pour reflects something genuinely special about a still-growing community like Tehaleh: when residents see a gap in what their neighborhood offers, they have the opportunity to fill it themselves — creating the kind of authentic, locally rooted gathering place that no outside developer could replicate.
